Kentucky Birds In May
May was a pretty active month for our feathered friends. We had many migrants move through the area on their way North to their breeding grounds. We did not have as many Warblers as last year due to the changing weather patterns. There were several fronts that drove them in other directions. Overall we had a very nice month. There have been 5 Summer Tanagers that have been hanging around and the Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Male and Female, stayed for almost 2 weeks. The Cardinals have the largest population I seen for some time. I have counted 5 pair. The Downy had 4 babies, The White-breasted Nuthatch had 3 and there are multiple House Finch and Goldfinch juveniles hanging around. The Eastern Phoebe had 4 babies and 2 weeks later laid another 4 eggs in the old nest.
